As 2013 races to a close, we are seeing some positive news today thanks to a survey carried out and published by the Federation of Small Businesses. Essentially it is indicating an upturn in the number of businesses taking on staff, and across all sectors, something that is echoed by recruitment agencies and consultancies.
Here in Wales, figures for the period July to September showed an increase of 22,000 workers against the same period in 2012, bringing the total in employment to 1.38m. Businesses who are able to expand their product and service offering are likely to take on more staff as they seek to meet their consumer demand.
One concern that is echoed across the business world however, is that of a continuing skill shortage in certain sectors. That said, the demand for both permanent and temporary workers is rising, and suggesting a positive and encouraging start to 2014.
